I was given an ecopy of this book by Nicky Wells the author in exchange for an honest review which I'm more than happy to give. Nicky was organising the blog tour for Fairytale in New York and having read last years Novella Spirits of Christmas the chance to catch up with the rock god Jude and girlfriend Carrie was too much to resist.
This book can be read as a stand alone book but I highly recommend you read Spirits of Christmas too, you'll then understand just how far Jude has come - let's just say in the previous novel the ghosts of christmas past pay him a visit and as a result Fairytale in New York has a very different hero in Jude.
The story begins at the airport in New York with Jude and Carrie along with baby Maya waiting in line for their plane home to the UK after being on tour with Jude and the band Tusq. Who could have predicted the chain of events that unfold after eavesdropping on a conversation and encountering a stranger also wanting to board a flight home to the UK?
Jude as a fairly new dad and totally transformed character to that encountered in Spirits of Christmas demonstrates over and over again how kind hearted and generous he can be. Putting others before himself sets off a domino set of events that will make your heart sing, bring tears to your eyes and make you smile with delight.
His love for Carrie and Maya always at the forefront in everything he does. His generous and kind nature shines through time and time again and is reciprocated by the strangers they come into contact with whilst stranded in New York for christmas.
This is a truly beautiful book, set in a city that captured my heart the first time I visited and will be sure to capture that of every reader. Add christmas, some snow, carols, children, new friends and family and you've got the setting for a perfect read.
This book demonstrates more than anything that material things are not important, yes they're nice but as long as we have love, friendship, trust and kindness in our lives nothing else matters. Jude and Carrie demonstrate so well, that it is each other - our friends and family and simple kindness that is important not all the gloss and trimmings we have in our everyday lives. For every tiny bit of kindness given the friendship and kindness returned is ten fold. The inner happiness felt by Carrie and Jude is transferred to everyone they meet.
I truly didn't want this book to end, my heart melted with every page I read and I can't recommend it highly enough. Jude is a rock god that'll turn your heart to mush, Carrie a friend I'd like in my life and New York a place I soooo have to go back to soon. Fairytale in New York has brought back so many happy memories - so thank you Nicky.
